Upon which days will "FFF" be marked on your calendar? The letters "FFF" represent an important, yet subtle, grass-roots effort aimed at preserving the freedoms that the countless heroes of past generations so generously dedicated their lives to fighting for, often with a fervor for a more meaningful future. Many of these freedoms include the following for everyone, regardless of any notable natural characteristics (e.g., sex, skin colour, size, shape, etc.):
The fight to protect all your freedoms is important because preservation is invariably easier than attempting the recovery of freedoms after they have been lost. Do not let anyone take away your freedoms, or anyone else's, for freedoms fundamentally are among the most essential aspects of living that also make it possible for you to truly enjoy and develop your own unique life experience.
Background (justification)Religious schools, and other religious-oriented private institutions, become a serious detriment to society, for example, when they value and practice the disgusting tradition of misogyny because that is a violation of human rights (arbitrary discrimination against a person based on their sex). When a religious institution partakes in the active discrimination against a group of people for arbitrary reasons that conflict with their nature (e.g., sex, sexual orientation, skin colour, etc.), then it's time for that institution to be shut down -- permanently. Fundamental human rights are more important than ideologies, such as religion (it really is that simple). Political CorrectnessPolitical Correctness (PC) is a corrupt ideology that interferes with and attacks freedom of expression. It is vague in its scope, which makes it a useful ally to oppressors as a tool to prohibitively discourage open and honest discourse by trying to fraudulently instill a sense of guilt upon those who value truth, honesty, and integrity. The peculiar justification of "not hurting someone else's feelings" or "causing offense" is often used as an excuse to dishonestly avoid discussing important topics in meaningful ways. The reality is that anyone who takes offense to the criticism of any idea is probably already aware that their beloved idea is flawed, but just doesn't want to face that fact. Those who try to inhibit freedom of expression are playing into the corrupt nature of Political Correctness which poses a serious threat to everyone's right to express ideas freely. If you permit anyone to limit your criticism of any ideas (and that includes religion, which is a collection of ideas), then you are submitting to the vague yet arbitrarily oppressive whims of Political Correctness, and recovering your freedom in the future will likely prove more difficult than defending it in the present.
Prevention and ChangeIn my strong opinion, it is the duty of all private and public institutions to ensure that they are not intentionally violating internationally recognized fundamental human rights, and a religious or cultural mandate is not an acceptable excuse, especially in these modern times where global technological progress is also fast becoming a ubiquitous fact of life. It's high time for religion, in particular, to throw away the baggage of its medieval traditions that routinely inspire horrors and atrocities, and to upgrade religious attitudes and mindsets to endorse compassion, peace, and a keen interest in human solidarity (and then, ultimately, tellurian solidarity).
Attitude and ActionTime is of the essence for those who are at risk of serious injury or death because of the tyranny of the severely outdated religious mandates that continue to persist throughout the world as dangerous forces of oppression despite the efforts of international human rights advocates, organizers, and supporters (direct and indirect), and so I encourage everyone to at least try to perform one action every month, no matter how small (even if it's to write to, or telephone a politician or a news producer, to let them know how important freedom and other fundamental human rights truly are). And if you can also communicate publicly (anonymously is okay) what you've done, even if only by writing a public post in a forum, leaving a comment on a related news article or other post that allows comments, or adding to a blog somewhere, then in the long-run these efforts can also add up to provide important insights for future researchers who seek to determine which matters are more important to the world. Perhaps people can start by writing to government regulators who are responsible for ensuring that private institutions are complying with the laws, and not only expressing their disappointment about recent events, but also asking what the official policy is regarding such institutions that intentionally disregard or violate internationally recognized human rights. A question like that should send a much deeper message that a human right that matters to you is an important issue that demands accountability.
How to add "FFF" to your calendar each monthDoing your part is easy, and you probably only need 15-20 minutes during one day each month to write that letter or place that phone call to make your idea known or voice heard. But most importantly, you'll be doing something that's meaningful and real, and that has great potential to have a more positive impact in the long run. Please mark your calendar now with "FFF" to remind yourself upon which day you will "Fight For Freedoms" in some manner. Have fun, and please do remember: The rewards of freedom make it possible to really enjoy having fun. Yours very truly, and wanting you to be free to be free,
Fidem Turbāre, the non-existent atheist goddess. |
